The working edge club has provided helpful tips to better my career development. I regard myself as privileged to have access to the club and the useful information.
As a working edge club member I was given the opportunity to do a presentation at the Grandwest City Lodge Hotel in Cape Town. My presentation was based on my job hunting experience as a recent graduate. I represented Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) at the workshop. The other Universities represented were the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and the University of Stellenbosch (US).
This was my first formal presentation as I got the chance to present in front of big corporate companies such as Woolworths and Sanlam Glacier. My presentation covered the following aspects, my academic history; my work experience to date and my job hunting plan of action for 2010.
The workshop boosted my confidence as a student as I got the opportunity to represent myself and give my perspective on what students go through to find employment. I also got a better understanding on what companies look for when appointing graduates.
A few days after the presentation a representative of Sanlam Glacier contacted me to regarding an interview.
I thank Yusuf for this exciting opportunity as it gave me a chance to network with corporate company representatives and possibly find employment.
