Earnings, Qualifications & You
The South African Business Schools Expo provides individuals with information about qualifications, skills development and labour market trends. This year, I’m privileged to be a speaker at the expo, presenting on a topical issue – Earnings, Qualifications & the Professional. The presentation is free to those attending the expo.
Many professionals acquire further qualifications, in part, because they expect to access better employment opportunities and increase their earnings in future. But does it automatically hold true?
I’m planning to examine these areas:
It is possible
Whatever makes you unhappy in the office…
…Whatever keeps you trapped in a job you hate
Whatever spoils your work day…
…Whatever pushes your dream further away
Whatever career dilemma you are facing…
Whatever job hunting obstacles you encounter…
…Whatever work rejections & disappointments come your way
I want you to remember this
IT IS POSSIBLE TO OVERCOME IT
It can be done
It means that you have to revisit your life, maybe through a different lens
It means that you have to work, maybe differently
It means that you have to get support, maybe from different people
But what ever it takes
It is possible
It has been done
It is possible to overcome your career, work & job challenges
Career Insights from the World Cup
Put your thinking cap on for five minutes As we enter the final days of the World Cup, I’ve rounded up powerful career insights from the game, on and off the field into ten cryptic statements:
- Twits on Twitter
- Wildcats dropped their guard
- Blood. Sun. Go home.
- Lights almost out
- Get on the couch for those millions
- Past performance is no guide to the future
- Hug your players
- Falling star, crashing team
- I can’t here you
- Short skirts get shot
Can you crack the above? I’ll reveal the career insights on Friday, 16 July.
Is your boss killing you?
If you don’t have a boss, lucky you! If you are the boss, you may read about yourself in this post. For the rest of us, I doubt that your boss chases you around the office wielding an axe in one hand and your work in the other.
But your boss could be killing you – your spirit and your work
Is your Career Flying or Falling?
Not too long ago, we were ecstatic about 2010 and succeeding this year, in our business, career, relationships, health and life. Five months down the line, how is your career coming along? Are you flying – working less, making more moolah, bringing your best to work? Or are you falling – working at capacity, lower pay increases and coming to work with a sullen face? From experience in my practice, I can count the number of individuals that are flying high in their career. The rest are drifting or falling fast – this includes graduates, lower level employees, skilled professionals, and senior managers.
What about you?
More significantly, what are you planning to do differently (if anything) in the second half of this year?
(Imod, May 2010)
